I never used to be a ‘new years resolution’ fan and I know why now. I was a compulsive starter but a poor finisher when it came to anything. I would have great ideas but sadly that’s all they stayed as..ideas. So when it came to goals for the next year I would fall flat and then beat myself up for doing so, so I just stopped doing it.
What I didn’t realise is that everyone requires a dream. We are always looking to improve on things in our life. Whether it’s a job, car, house, knowledge or hobby we should always be challenging ourselves. Stretching is great for our physical but is great for our emotional and mental state. Stretching ourselves mentally, emotionally and physically. Stepping into the unknown, taking a risk or two or doing something that really scares us is important for our spiritual growth and self esteem. It’s also character building.
I once did a vision board with an ex. I didn’t expect much to come from it but I did it anyway, just to keep the peace or show willing I can’t really remember. We put ours on our bedroom wall where we both could see it and I saw it every day.
When it came to the end of the year we took them down and sure enough those pictures on that vision board had all come true. It had worked. Except that there was a Mercedes on there which I immediately had seen as a fail and it had been quite an unrealistic expectation. But when I thought back to the year just gone I had driven a car exactly like it but it had been someone else’s. I then realised that maybe my goals needed to be a bit more specific or thought through.

A vision board need not be a huge thing. Just four or five pictures of things you desire is sufficient. Or if you’d prefer you could write the things you want to manifest. It’s also great fun exploring what it is you want. You can find yourself really getting into it, picking the shape, colour or texture. Some people go far as to imagine how it smells…the more detail you go into the more you are telling the universe what it is you desire and how much you want it.
You can even go into parts of your life you wish to improve and do a section of the board on each. For example: Wellbeing, Relationships, Home Goals, Money, Career/Education and Inspirational Quotes.
I do mine purely as pictures as I’m driven more visually. I give an example of my one a few years ago below.
How to make a vision board:-
1. Take a moment of self-reflection and work out what’s important to you. Focus on areas of your life that you would like to change.
2. Decide if they should be long term or short term goals. They don’t need to be 12 months but marking them with a deadline is important.
3. Get out some of your magazines or use google for images that represent the items you wish to bring into your life. If you want a new home think about what your new home would look like and then find pictures of homes closest to your vision, if it’s a holiday then choose where you would like to go - there are tourism websites for every destination that have the best photos.
4. Using a cork board is best so buy one if you need to but make sure you try and get one large enough for your images.
5. Hang it in a place that you will see it as often as possible. (Every day at least).
